Announcing “Introduction to Mineral Physics”
A nationwide COMPRES Graduate Seminar
Hosted by Dr. Pamela Burnley and Dr. Sylvia-Monique Thomas
Department of Geoscience and High Pressure Science and Engineering Center University of Nevada, Las Vegas
“Introduction to Mineral Physics” is an entry-level graduate course in mineral physics that will be taught on-line to a nationwide audience during Spring 2012. The objective of the course is to familiarize students with mineral physics topics and techniques so that they can comfortably read research literature in mineral physics. The course will meet twice a week (Tuesday & Thursday 11:00 AM- 12:30 PM (PST) January 17th-May 3rd) on-line via Skype, gotomeeting or another web tool. Class meetings will be spent in a combination of lectures, guest lectures and student led discussions.
Students may enroll at UNLV as non-degree seeking graduate students (http://graduatecollege.unlv.edu/prospective/non-degree/become_a_student/). Students at campuses of participating faculty should contact Dr. Burnley for additional enrollment options. Faculty interested in offering parallel independent studies should also contact Dr. Burnley.
Available spaces in the course are limited so students should let us know if they intend to participate as as possible.
