[20130430] Post-Doctoral Fellow Position at the Mineral Physics Lab at UT Austin, USA

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research position in the Mineral Physics Laboratory at the Department of Geological Sciences, Jackson School of Geosciences, the University of Texas at Austin. Candidates should have a strong experience and knowledge in high-pressure diamond-anvil cell techniques, synchrotron-based X-ray spectroscopic techniques, and/or laser spectroscopic systems. Knowledge in high-pressure elasticity, electronic properties (e.g., spin transitions), and/or Brillouin and pulsed laser spectroscopies (e.g., impulsive stimulated light scattering) will be first considered. Research topics include, but not limited to, mineral physics, energy materials, and novel electronic/superhard materials under extreme conditions. The position requires some travels to synchrotron radiation centers such as the Advanced Photon Source to conduct high pressure-temperature experiments to investigate novel materials properties at extreme environments. The initial appointment for the position is for one year, but is expected to be renewed for the second year and the third year. The annualized salary is $50,000 or higher.  The position can be funded by the Energy Frontier Research in Extreme Environments (EFree) Center of the Energy Frontier Research Centers (EFRCs) and/or the NSF Geophysics Program. Evaluation of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The starting date is negotiable.

Interested applicants should submit the following:  CV (including a publication list), a statement of research interests and plans (your research plans at UT Austin as a postdoctoral researcher), and contact information for three references to:
