Research Associate in Experimental Mineral Physics (Diamond-Anvil Cell).
DEPARTMENT OF EARTH SCIENCES, UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON
This full time appointment will be on UCL salary grade 7
Salary: £32,375 - £39,132 (inclusive of London Allowance)
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research associate position funded by the Natural Environment Research Council. The project aims to determine the water content of the Earth’s mantle through concurrent electrical conductivity and infra-red absorption spectroscopy measurements of silicate minerals at high pressures and temperatures in the diamond anvil cell. The observed dependence of electrical conductivity on water content will be used in inversions of the observed geomagnetic response function to constrain water content in the upper mantle and transition zone. The position is for the experimental component of the project.
The appointment will be for three years. The successful applicant will work with strong and vibrant groups within the departments of Earth Science and of Chemistry.
Candidates should have, a PhD in the Earth sciences, physics or a related physical science. An independent research reputation with high quality publications and a strong background in diamond-anvil cell experimentation are essential.
