Postdoctoral Associate Position in Novel Materials at High Pressure

The Geophysical Laboratory, Carnegie Institution of Washington, seeks applications for a postdoctoral position in the field of novel materials synthesis and characterization. The positions will focus on discovery of new materials with outstanding properties, which can be synthesized under the conditions of high pressure and high temperature. Researchers will work closely in a team comprised of experimental physicist (Alexander Goncharov) and theorists (Artem Oganov).

Minimum qualifications: A PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science or a related field is the requirement for this position.

Desired qualifications: Candidates should be familiar with high-pressure techniques including laser-heated diamond anvil cells, as well characterization tools such as Raman / infrared spectroscopies and powder x-ray / single crystal diffraction. Experience in solid-state synthesis methodologies is desirable. Successful candidates are expected to be able to work in both independent and collaborative group environments.
