In the research group Dispersive Solids in the Department Materials and Geo Science there are PhD / postdoctoral positions available. The successful candidates will be involved in the synthesis of novel ceramic materials under extreme conditions and their characterization in terms of thermo-mechanical and opto-electronic properties. In addition, they will be involved in teaching activities, e.g. laboratory courses for materials science students.
The candidates for the post-doctoral position should have a doctoral degree in natural or engineering sciences (physics, chemistry, materials or geo sciences). Moreover, experience in the high-pressure synthesis of ceramic materials based on oxides, nitrides and carbides of the main group and transition elements and hands-on expertise in high-pressure techniques like diamond anvil cell (DAC) and large volume press (LVP) are required. The contract term is for 3-years, with the possibility of extension. Highly motivated candidate may pursue the Habilitation (postdoctoral lecturer qualification in the German academic system). Interested applicants are requested to submit their applications including curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a statement of research interests and plans as well as copies of degree certificates and contact information of two references to Prof. Dr. Ralf Riedel (riedel@materials.tu-darmstadt.de).
The candidate for the PhD position should have graduated (master degree) in physics, chemistry, materials or geo sciences and have sound knowledge in solid-state physics/chemistry. Experience in high-pressure techniques is desired but not a pre-requisite for the application. The contract term is for 3 years. Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, copies of diplomas, contact information of two references and a list of publications (if any) to Prof. Riedel.
Application deadline for both positions is 15th November 2013.
