Dr. Hanns-Peter Liermann is a staff scientist at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) located in Hamburg, Germany. He is responsible for the "Extreme Conditions Beamline" at the 3rd generation light source PETRA III. Dr. Liermann received his Diploma in Mineralogy in 1994 from the University of Mainz and his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in 2000. His research interests involve the development of novel high-pressure and simultaneous temperature techniques in the DAC for the exploration of the physical properties of deep earth materials with help of X-ray diffraction. He is also involved in exploring and developing dynamic high-pressure techniques using DAC and shock lasers both at 3rd and 4th generation light sources to better understand rate dependent behavior of the physical properties of Earth materials. He was elected member of the AIRAPT ExC in 2015. E-mail: hanns-peter.liermann@desy.de.
