I first met Dr A. Jayaraman (AJ) in the late 1970's. He invited me to give a talk at the 1980 Gordon Conference on 'Research at High Pressure' that he co-chaired. I visited him later at the Bell Labs and spoke with him many times at conferences. During a visit to Washington University in St Louis in the late 1980's he put in a good word for me; as a result I was invited to come to St Louis from Munich, Germany, for an interview. An offer followed. I joined the physics faculty at Washington University in 1990 where I stayed until my retirement in 2018. AJ was an exceptional scientist who made seminal advances in high-pressure research. AJ was also a wonderful human being. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the high-pressure community all over the world.
Here are a few recollections from his family and friends: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/legacyremembers/aiyasami-jayaraman-...
