[20100124] Post-doc at ESRF

2 PostDoc positions at the ESRF

THE FUNCTION:

The beamline ID27 is a premier X-ray powder and single crystal diffraction station primarily dedicated to research at extreme pressures and temperatures. The combination of high resolution XRD and advanced sample environments (Paris-Edinburgh large volume press, double sided laser heating system and helium-flow cryostats) open up many new possibilities in the study of matter at very high pressures and temperatures. The successful candidates will play a major role in the running and further development of the High-Pressure beamline as well as in the other activities of the Dynamics and Extreme Conditions Group.
User support will be a key activity which will provide much opportunity for collaborative work at the frontiers of the field. Beamtime will be set aside for in-house research and the post-doctoral fellows will be
given the opportunity to develop their own research programme in close collaboration with the beamline team.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

First degree and Ph.D. in physics, geophysics or materials science. You will be expected to have already conducted and published a significant amount of research work. Experience with high-pressure techniques and good experimental skills are essential. Synchrotron radiation experience, more particularly in diffraction techniques, is also very desirable.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The ESRF shares a site with several other major European scientific institutes; it offers an exciting opportunity in an international atmosphere. New staff coming from outside the Grenoble area benefit from
installation allowances to move and settle in the area. An expatriation allowance may be payable in accordance with specific regulations. Only candidates holding a Ph.D. obtained less than 3 years ago are eligible for Post-doctoral positions. */Post-doctoral fellows are employed for an eighteen-month period with a possibility of extension of another six to eighteen months and the contract should start as soon as possible.

Further information on the post can be obtained from Mohamed Mezouar (email: mezouar@esrf.fr ). The ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from disabled persons.
