MR07: Superhard Materials: Synthesis and Systematics
Special Session at the 2010 Fall AGU Meeting, San Francisco, USA, December 13th-17th, 2010

Description:
Studying materials under high P/T have yielded a suite of materials that have superior physical and chemical properties as compared to their room-condition counterparts. As these materials are important for industry and research, the synthesis of other superhard materials remains a valuable endeavor. In general, mechanical properties are expected to depend on chemistry, crystal structure, stress response to applied strain, and equation of state. Despite this, little is known about the necessary conditions for quenchable phases to show enhanced strength, which are essential for the synthesis of such materials. We invite submissions that tackle the problem of hardness in materials and minerals and their effects on deformation and strength.

We are proud to note the following confirmed invited presenters:
Artem Oganov (SUNY Stony Brook)
Abby Kavner (UCLA)
Tom Duffy (Princeton)
Yuejian Wang (Yale)

We would like to encourage you to bring this session to the attention of other individuals that you believe can contribute to or are interested in this topic.

Abstract deadline is September 02- 2359 Eastern  Daylight Time.
Electronic submissions may be completed at
